About Us

Sam is the Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of Advantage Capital Strategies Group and serves as a Dealing Representative for the firm. He has 20 years of finance experience in both the public and private sector. Sam began his career in the Government of British Columbia, working at the Ministry of Finance on large scale capital project analysis and operating budget oversight.

Sam has spent the past decade working in private sector investment management, with experience in public and private markets. He has dedicated his career to sustainable investment and co-founded Advantage Capital Strategies Group to advance this work. Sam serves on several boards, including Maytree and the Massey College Finance and Audit Committee, with past service including Fresh City Farms, St. Jude’s Community Homes and the Open Democracy Project. Sam is a graduate of Queen’s University (BaH) and the University of Victoria (MPA) and holds the Chartered Professional Accountant designation and the Chartered Investment Manager designation.

Matt is a Director and a Co-Founder of Advantage Capital Strategies Group, working on corporate strategy and thematic research. Matt began his career at the Ontario Ministry of Finance before entering the investment industry, where he has worked across asset classes. He co-leads Alder Capital, an investment firm financing private companies with positive social or environmental mandates.

Matt is also Vice-Chair at Maytree, an organization committed to advancing system solutions to poverty, and Vice-Chair of All Saints Homes, a supportive housing provider in Toronto. Matt holds an Economics degree from McMaster University and a Master’s of Public Administration from the University of Victoria.

James is the Portfolio Manager at Advantage Capital Strategies Group. He is responsible for the overall investment strategy of the funds, including research, security selection, and portfolio construction. James has over 20 years of professional experience in the investment industry primarily in equity portfolio management. The majority of his career has been spent developing fundamental and quantitative investment techniques to deliver strategies with superior risk/return characteristics.

Prior to joining ACS, he spent 10 years at BMO Global Asset Management and was the lead Portfolio Manager for a variety of mutual funds and institutional mandates. James has also held portfolio management roles at Agilith Capital, a small investment firm he co-founded, and Legg Mason Canada. James is a CFA charter holder and holds a Master of Applied Science and Bachelor of Applied Science from the University of Waterloo where he studied Computer Engineering.

Vimal is a Socially Responsible Investment Analyst at Advantage Capital Strategies Group. He is passionate above investing and has over 10 years of investment experience across equity and fixed income asset classes. Prior to joining ACS Group, Vimal was a Vice President at Goldman Sachs Asset Management working as a buy side investment analyst on the US High Yield and Bank Loan funds with primary coverage of metals & mining, environmental services, and software.

He is interested in ESG and believes in the intersectionality of social responsibility and investments. Vimal holds an MBA in Applied Security Analysis from the University of Wisconsin Madison and a Bachelor of Engineering from National Institute of Technology Karnataka, India.

Martin Kim is an Investment Analyst at Advantage Capital Strategies Group. Martin has investment research experience covering both equity and fixed income asset classes. Prior to joining ACS Group, Martin was an Equity Research Associate at an independent investment dealer covering metals & mining names in North America.

Martin also worked as a Fixed Income Analyst at S&P Global Ratings covering financial institutions in the Asia Pacific region. Martin holds a Master of Management Analytics from Queen’s University and a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Martin is a CFA charter holder.
